2016-2017 NMC Scholarship Recipients

Harleigh Herrera

The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) Foundation selected Harleigh Herrera as one of this year's NMC Scholarship recipients. Harleigh, an artist and mother, was born in 1992 in Albuquerque, NM. She currently attends the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe NM. She is in her final year with hopes of obtaining her BFA in Studio Arts along with her certificate in Business and Entrepreneurship. She is a member of Alpha Chi, a national college honor society. Harleigh has used art as a way of expressing who she is her entire life. Her influence in the arts comes from a lifetime of support from her family, her school, and her mentors. Santana Lopez

The Northern New Mexico College Foundation, on behalf of Northern NM College, selected Santana Lopez to receive one of this year's NMC Scholarships. Santana is originally from and currently lives in Abiquiu, NM. She graduated with honors from Coronado High School in Gallina, NM with the class of 2015. Santana will start her sophomore year at Northern New Mexico College this fall. She plans on gaining her Associate's Degree in Film and Digital Media Arts at Northern and will then continue her education toward a Bachelor's Degree. You can learn more about Santana here.

Amanda Romero

The University of New Mexico Foundation selected UNM student Amanda Romero to receive another of this year's NMC Scholarships. Amanda, an artist and musician, will graduate from The University of New Mexico in December 2016 with a BFA in Art Studio with an emphasis in Electronic Arts and a Minor in Arts Management. Amanda will conclude her Honors Thesis exhibition and lecture for her body of work 'Isla del Medio' this fall. She will graduate with Baccalaureate Honors, Departmental Honors and as a member of The National Society of Student Leadership and Success. Go here to learn more about Amanda.

Jasmin Vargas

The New Mexico State University Foundation selected NMSU student Jasmin Vargas to receive one of this year's NMC Scholarships. Jasmin graduated from Alta Vista Early College, located in Anthony, NM, with not only a diploma, but an Associate of Arts degree as well. She began attending New Mexico State University during the Fall of 2016 with the purpose of continuing to work towards her Bachelor's degree. At NMSU, she is an Art major and is considering a Kinesiology major. After she graduates in 2018, Jasmin is hoping to pursue a career as a Recreational Therapist where she will help to rehabilitate patients with disabilities through art, dance and other forms of activity.
