Charis Congail is known for intimate and searching portrayals of her subjects, who often find themselves in existentially questionable circumstances. In her current project, The Idea of Wilderness series, she explores the elusive edges of perceived boundaries between “self” and “other” and a creeping dissolution of dualistic mindsets.
Initially trained as a sculptor, Charis Congail rediscovered her passion for art as a self-taught classical painter, while retaining her three-dimensional understanding of the figure. That understanding in combination with a deep curiosity about mythology, quantum physics and the absurd, informs her inquisitive and quietly haunting images which exist beyond the surface; her paintings seem to be constructed from the inside out.
Charis Congail is a member of the Oil Painters of America and the Portrait Society of America and is listed with PortraitArtist.com. She paints in her home studio located in Eldorado.
